Birds of the Kruger

Admittedly, I am a novice bird watcher.  I became a “birder” about a year ago. I can understand the passion. During my recent week long trip to the Kruger National Park I often saw stickers on the back of vehicle – “I brake for birds” or “Birder on board”. Where I am not nearly in the league to justify such a bumper sticker on my vehicle, I will definitely work towards earning my ‘sticker”.

So, back to my trip in the Kruger. With my friends (also novice birders) we found that without a lot of trouble, you can find and see birds quite easily. The secret is to actually look for the birds. What I mean by this is that while you stop to appreciate the elephant, you have to look up into the trees or on the ground because there is usually a bird around. We ended up taking photos of quite a few birds. It helps to have a bird book to identity them.

I have put together a few of my better photos (as I am also a novice photographer). I hope that this will entice you to visit the Kruger National Park soon.
